53rd Legislature Commences Final Sitting

MONROVIA, January 9 (LINA) - The National Legislature Monday began the 6th and Final Session of the 53rd Legislature in keeping with Article 32(a) of the Constitution of Liberia. Article 32(a) of the Liberian Constitution states that: "The Legislature shall assemble in regular session once a year on the second working Monday in January."

MONROVIA, January 9 (LINA) - House Speaker Emmanuel Nuquay has re-emphasized the need for proper coordination among the three branches of government, terming it as "the way forward in doing the work of the Liberian people." "There is no need to be at loggerheads or to engage in unnecessary confrontations over matters that can be easily resolved. The work of our branches of government it inextricably linked," Nuquay said.

MONROVIA, January 9 (LINA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is closely monitoring the situation in The Gambia ahead of the planned inauguration of President-elect Adama Barrow later this month. ECOWAS Chairperson and Liberian leader Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said sub-regional leaders were holding series of meetings to reach a decision on the situation to find solution to the political stalemate in The Gambia.
