In a communication dated September 1, addressed to House Speaker J. Alexander Tyler, Mr. Fahnbulleh disclosed that the National Legislature passed series of Autonomous Agencies Legislations in 1972, and empowered the President to establish a scientific institute, according to the Liberia News Agency.
He maintained that the Act also provides for the National Scientific Institute to be a subsidiary of the University of Liberia, and its activities provided for through annual budgetary appropriations, paid into a special fund to be administered by the University.
Rep Fahnbulleh argued that taking into account reports that there is always s likelihood of recurrence considering what is currently obtaining in the Democratic Republic of Congo where Ebola first began in 1976 makes it more compelling to act fast.
“It is therefore against this background, Honorable Speaker and Distinguished Colleagues that I pray that Plenary communicates and strongly encourages the President to fully activate the National Scientific Institute as provided for by Law”, Fahnbulleh emphasized.
Following the reading of the communication on Tuesday, September 2, Plenary sent it to the Committees on Health, Education and Judiciary for scrutiny and recommendation with the mandate to report in two weeks.LINA HVW/JGT/TSS/PTK
