Dr. Okech Ojony Joa said there is always a resurgence of the Ebola virus after being brought under control in the affected country, adding, “it has attacked my country (Uganda) about six different times and can strike anywhere in that country”

Dr. Joa made the statement at the compound of the Charles Henry Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata Wednesday during the reopening of the hospital, the Liberia News Agency reports.

Dr. Joa said the Ebola virus for the first time attacked his country Uganda in early 2000 and was followed by five others, plus three additional attacks of other infectious diseases.

Dr. Joa, a consultant at the World Health Organization (WHO), said the fight against the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia was making some significant gains, but added that the country needs to act faster to be ahead of future outbreaks in the country.

He said responding to community members’ calls for help in taking to health facilities suspected or confirmed family members was very important to their survival as the care and attention given strengthens them.

He then commended the Liberian government for allowing Ugandan doctors to come and share their experiences with their Liberian counterparts and people in the fight against the Ebola virus.

He assured the government and people of Liberia that they will work closely with them to ensure that the virus is contained and subsequently eradicated from Liberia.
