Cllr Scott said the CRC should have held a national conference in August 2014 to solicit the views of Liberians and various stakeholders on the amendment of certain articles of the Liberian Constitution, but that the Ebola outbreak has constrained it to postpone the exercise.
The CRC Chairperson made the disclosure on UNMIL Radio Friday in an interview on the impact of the Ebola crisis on the committee’s operations which might be extended when the disease in eradicated from the country.
She indicated that the CRC is now analyzing data from the nationwide consultation during this period of the State of Emergency and holding consultations with members of the Legislature until the state of emergency is lifted.
She stressed that as soon as the state of emergency is lifted, the CRC will hold the national conference and get the public to propose the necessary amendments to the Liberian Constitution.
The CRC was established on August 27, 2012 by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to organize and lead a process of constitution review with the mandate to arrange public discourses and debates on provisions of the organic law.
