The minister attributed this government strategy to positive outcomes emanating from the Township of West Point where the local leadership has been able to take ownership of the fight against the deadly disease since the area was quarantined.

He made the disclosure recently at the Ministry of Information regular press conference in Monrovia.

Minister Brown said the government has already convened consultative meetings with the leaderships of Caldwell, New Kru Town, New Georgia and other communities within Monrovia on the possibility of replicating similar measures instituted in West Point without possibly isolating those communities.

Brown explained that by aiding communities in structuring a leadership to take charge of the Ebola fight at the community level, there will be more sense of responsibility as people feel obligated and challenged to participate in the process of saving the country from the disease.

The Minister disclosed that 17 cases of suspected Ebola patients have been identified and forwarded to the JFK by the local community leadership in West Point, something he attributed to the collaboration among members of the community contact tracing team and healthcare workers in the area.

At the same time, Brown has said the government has identified as a top priority the establishment of additional five treatment units in the country to boost the current capacity of the country health system.

He said government’s decision is predicated upon the recent and voluntary turn up of more people at treatment units in the country.
