Minister Brown said Liberia’s struggle with the deadly Ebola disease has reached a matter of urgency that must be responded to by every Liberian, regardless of political, tribal and cultural affiliations.

He made the statement at the Ministry of Information regular weekly news conference on the Ebola disease at the weekend.

Minister Brown said some members of the Legislature are doing their best within their constituencies, mobilizing the people against the disease.

He, however, described as worrisome efforts by others that have turned on the opposite to politicize the country’s struggle with the virus.

“Representatives and senators should be knocking on doors calling on the people to take preventive measures against this deadly disease, but not to sit on radio and make matters worse. Let them hold on yet. This is not the political season,” the Minister said.  

He said the President as head of the national taskforce is on a daily basis making Liberia’s case known to the international community so that more assistance can come to the country, noting “Government will not be engage in your usual politicking, we will not waste time on needless discussions, our people need help and we have to help them.”

Brown said if every member of the legislature continues to encourage their people on a daily basis to practice preventive measures, Liberia will in no time eradicate the disease and the country will be safe for everyone to return to normal activities.  

“Our people need hope not politics; this disease is a threat to all of us if we do not unite and stop seeing each other as political opponents, the disease is going to cause more harm to our country,” Brown said.
