Representative Kaffi said joining other international partners in helping to contain the Ebola pandemic further demonstrates the long-standing traditional relationship subsisting between the two countries.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Representative Kaffi made the statement over the weekend in Kakata when the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART) brought in building materials to construct an Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) in Kakata.

The materials include two 40 kva generators, several rolls of specially-made plastic sheets, 80 beds, among other essential materials to build the Margibi County ETU.

Representative Kaffi said he was delighted to see an ETU being constructed in the county adding, “This will help curtail the referral of Ebola cases to other treatment facilities in Monrovia that are often times filled.”

He said as a result these patients are made to wait for hours, if not days, to be transferred and in most instances returned to the county due to lack of space at the treatment centers.

Delivering the materials to the center, Mr. Kai Olsen, DART- USAID Logistic Specialist, said the donation was the beginning of his government’s direct response to the Ebola crisis in the country.

Mr. Olsen said the DART and USAID will help construct ETUs across the country where necessary for the effective control and containment of patients infected with the Ebola virus.

The ETU in Kakata currently being constructed by Save the Children International will have a capacity of 50 beds.

Margibi County is said to be one of the hardest hit counties with over 200 Ebola deaths of which 27 are health workers.
