The person, whose nationality was not disclosed during the Centers for Disease Control press conference on Tuesday, September 30, arrived in the US on September 20, 2014 on a flight which originated from Liberia.
The male patient had gone to see his family.
Hospital authorities indicate that he showed no symptoms of the disease until September 24th and was admitted to their facility for treatment on September 27 and put into isolation the next day.
According to Dr. Tom Frieden, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this interval means that he was not able to transmit the disease to anyone on the flight or in any of the airports through which he passed.
However, he added that all persons who could have possibly been his contacts are being traced and the US will do all possible to ensure that Ebola does not spread beyond this case.
He named Nigeria and Senegal as countries that have been able to contain Ebola infections, stating that US with its advanced health system stands prepared to also combat the disease.
The CDC emphasized that even if this case is contained in the US, the world will still be at risk until the disease is combated in West Africa.
