Speaking on behalf of the Council during a four-day consultative meeting sponsored by the Carter Center in Gbarnga, Bong County Thursday, the Deputy Speaker of the Council, Chief Bob Kofizah, said “we will kick the virus out of Liberia in no time” once the needed support is provided.

Chief Kofizah named vehicles and motorcycles to facilitate their transportation to remote towns and villages in the 15 counties to educate villagers about Ebola prevention methods.

He did not specify the exact amount of money needed by the Council.

The chiefs noted there is need to stop what they called “plenty talking” and revert to action by giving the needed support that will enable the chiefs reach the last towns and villages with the Ebola messages.

“If you give us the right support, you can rest assured that we will in a short period get rid of this disease” Chief Kofizah maintained.

The chiefs have meanwhile frowned at the cremation of bodies, describing it as a violation of the traditional norms of the country.

They emphasized that the burning of bodies is a strange phenomenon that will also have negative impact on the country’s cultural and traditional practices.

It can be recalled that Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly addressing the opening session of a consultative meeting in Gbarnga, Bong County, challenged traditional leaders, chiefs and elders to join government in fighting the Ebola virus.

The meeting is intended to chart a means by which traditional people can participate in helping to eradicate the deadly Ebola disease.
