MONROVIA, October 11 (LINA)- Liberia’s Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai, has begun the distribution of food and non-food supplies to health facilities, religious institutions and communities in Monrovia.

According to a press release issued Friday, tuna fish and high energy milk were distributed to the communities of West Point, Buzzi Quarters, Soniwein, as well as the Central Mosque on Benson Street, the ELWA Ebola Treatment Unit and the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.

The Project Director in the Office of the Vice President, Peter Stephen and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Reverend Dr. J. Luther Tarpeh, who distributed the food items to these communities and facilities, said the Vice President was pleased to identify with them in this critical time in Liberia where food and healthcare are currently the foremost concerns of every Liberian.

The two representatives from the Office of the Vice President told residents of the Power Plant Community in West Point, the Soniwein Community and Buzzi Quarters Community that due to immense health challenges that have translated into severe economic problems for the nation, the tuna fish and high energy drink will go to the most vulnerable segments of society to build their immune system in case of the attacks by the deadly Ebola virus.

Mr. Peters and Ambassador Tarpeh informed the community residents that the Vice President will ensure that the donations made by His Church International Charity are distributed taking into consideration all the procedures of accountability, as he has been doing over the past eight years with donations he had received from Reverend Cockings of His Church Charity based in the UK.
The Logistics Coordinator of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, the Imam of the Central Mosque on Benson Street, Gossimu Kromah, the chairman of the Power Plant Community in West Point, Paul Bobby Keah and the chairman of Buzzi Quarters, Edward Sumo, who received the food items on behalf of their institutions and communities, thanked the Vice President for the donation.

Imam Gossimu Kromah, recounted the many contributions Vice President Boakai has made to the Muslim Community, and called on all Liberians to desist from evil, if God should listen to their prayers to wipe away the Ebola virus from the country.

It can be recalled that Vice President Joseph N. Boakai last week received three forty-foot containers of donations from the Head of His Church Charity International, Reverend Trevor Cockings for distribution to the needy in Liberia in the wake of the Ebola outbreak in the country.

The consignment, including a container of medical supplies intended to fight the Ebola disease, was received at the Freeport of Monrovia. The other two containers with food and non-food items were intended for communities in need.

According to the release from the Vice President’s office, the distribution of the food and non-food supplies will intensify in the weeks ahead as more supplies are expected in the country shortly.

“The concentration now is the most vulnerable groups afflicted by the current health crisis,” the release concluded.
