He said traditional practices such as the bathing of dead bodies must be totally abolished even when Ebola is kicked out of Liberia.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Kula sounded the warning Tuesday at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing.
He emphasized that the practices were undermining efforts by the Government of Liberia to meet the December 31 deadline set by the Government and international partners to eradicate the virus from the country.
Mr. Kula said to ensure that Liberia meets the targeted deadline, community dwellers must take ownership of the fight against the epidemic by monitoring sick people and putting a halt to the burial and bathing of dead bodies in their various communities.
He lauded Montserrado County District #6 Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe, for his instrumentality in the establishment of the District Ebola Task Force to buttress government’s efforts in fighting the Ebola virus.
At the same time, Mr. Kula has recommended that the movement of people in the various communities be managed by community members themselves, noting that people are in the habit of leaving their communities to attend the death ceremonies of relatives and return with the virus which later spreads to others and causes their deaths.
