HARPER, Jan 2 (LINA) - The City Corporation of Harper in Maryland County has embarked upon a massive clean-up campaign intended to restore the city to its pre-war status.

City Mayor Regina Sampson told the Liberia News Agency in Harper Tuesday that 129 youths have been recruited from within and around the city to take part in the clean-up exercise.

She said the city has been divided into zones, including Bunker Hill, East Harper, Central Harper, Huffman Station, New Kru Town and Up Cape, to facilitate the clean-up campaign in which hundreds of residents are expected to participate.

The Mayor vowed that her administration will exert all efforts to keep the city clean and to ensure sanitation and beautification remains the order of the day.

She said the clean-up was also intended to keep the city clean and make it an attraction to both local and international tourists.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sampson is calling on owners of land and dilapidated buildings in the city to clean and renovate them to give Harper a facelift.

In a related development, the Harper City Corporation and the administration of the William V.S. Tubman Technical College have agreed in principle to periodically clean the city.
