Bong Mining Company buildings are well on course in keeping with the time frame set for its completion.

Mr. Zarlee said the payment, which is being done by the Liberian government, is intended to ensure that the buildings are finally turned over to the China Union Investment (Liberia) Ltd to enable it take full control of assets in its concession area.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency in Bong Mines Monday, Mr. Zarlee said an amount of US$413,500 is being paid to the 828 heads of family.

He said each family head is receiving US$500 in check drawn on the Liberian Bank for Development and Investment.

He said the entire payment process has a deadline for Friday, January 10, 2014 and that any one still occupying these buildings stands to lose their benefits and face eviction by a court.

Besides ex-Bong Mines workers, the relocation exercise is also affecting current employees of China Union as well as teachers of public schools in Bong Mines and officers of the Liberia National Police assigned there. 

Houses in concession area emptying fast, as occupants hurry to leave ahead of the January 10 deadline to obtain their benefits.
