MONROVIA, Feb 22 (LINA) - The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) and the Liberia National Cultural Union (LNCU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) allowing the Union to take over the historic Providence Island.

The MOU will run for one year and empowers the LNCU transform the island into a tourist site. Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Information on Thursday, Deputy Information Minister for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Elizabeth E. Hoff, lauded officials of LNCU for the decision to collaborate with the Information Ministry in its tourism development initiative. She said the Information Ministry has long wished to work with a well-organized group like the LNCU in promoting culture and tourism in the country, and hoped that the one-year agreement will be extended to more years.

Mrs. Hoff said the signing of the MOU comes at the time when the Liberian leader dedicated a Chevron Monrovia Park, close to the Providence Island where children in and around Monrovia go for recreation.

"With this signing ceremony, I want you to keep the Providence Island always busy and attract more tourists to it," Mrs. Hoff to the LNCU Officials.
