Ambassador Solaja said although Liberia signed the Charter on June 18, 2008, it is yet to ratify and deposit it at the AUC.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Solaja made the call Thursday when he addressed a press conference at the AU Liaison Office on 10th Street in Sinkor, outside Monrovia, on the essence of the ratification of the Charter.
It can be recalled that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in her State of the Union address this year, announced the submission of 15 AU legal instruments, including the ACDEG, to the National Legislature for consideration and possible ratification.
Solaja disclosed that in January this year, 45 AU member states signed the Charter, adding that of this number, 23 have ratified and deposited it with the AUC.
He explained that member states that ratify and deposit the Charter stand to reap many benefits, including guaranteed human and state security, respect for the rule of law, peace, stability and development, among others.
The AUC official also stressed the need for Liberians to familiarize themselves with the provision of the ACDEG and the rights and responsibilities therein.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Solaja has appealed to the Liberian media to partner with the African Union Mission in Liberia to disseminate information relative to the Charter and encourage the National Legislature to expedite its ratification.
