In the petition read by the former principal of the St.Mary’s High School, Larlesseh W. Berdeh, and presented by Commissioner Fred N. Gaye, Sr., the citizens also appealed for additional maternal waiting homes at three major zones in the area.

Areas named in the petition include Zone One, Gayewee Town; Zone Two, Duo Suopa Town and Zone Three , Gbayi Suopa Town.

Commissioner Gaye said although the maternal waiting home earlier constructed by Africare is getting overcrowded, residents of over 10 towns in the district are not benefiting from the new clinic and maternal home due to transportation problems.

The commissioner said if the requested facilities are erected, it would curtail the danger of pregnant women having to swim across the rivers to seek delivery at the Duo Tiayee Health facility.

Meanwhile, the residents have appreciated the County Health Team and its partner, Africare Liberia, for constructing the only maternal home and undertaking the complete renovation of the headquarters clinic in Tiayee Town.

District Health Officer, Rancy Larkpor , said the County Health Team’s 2011plan spanning ten years might have captured issues raised in the petition.

However, he pledged the Nimba health system's willingness to address issues raised in the petition.
