VOINJAMA, June 18 (LINA) -The Voinjama District Youth Children Advisory Board (VDYC) and Voinjama District Children’s Representative Forum (VDCRF), with support from Plan Liberia, on Tuesday celebrated the Day of the African Child (DAC) in Voinjama, Lofa County.

According to the Liberia News Agency, this year’s celebration of DAC was held under the theme, “Every Child has the Right to Free, Compulsory and Quality Education.”

Delivering the keynote address at the program, the Chairman of the Lofa County Children’s Representative Forum, Daniel N. Gayflor, encouraged parents to monitor their children’s activities while in school.

Speaking on the theme, “The Broad Aspect of Education”, Mr. Gayflor also called on authorities of Lofa County, central government, civil society organizations, and NGOs to invest resources in early childhood education which, he noted, was a key component of Liberia’s education system.

DAC celebration was held at the William V.S. Tubman County Hall in Voinjama City, Lofa County.

It was climaxed with sporting activities among children at the Voinjama Public School sports pitch.

June 16 every year is set aside in Africa to commemorate hundreds of children who lost their lives while fighting for academic freedom in Soweto, South Africa in 1976.
