The Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports for Youth Development, Lance Gba Gonyon, said the ministry would tap into several youth programs it is currently operating to train and employ the graduates.

He named them as the National Youth Building Program, Youth Peace-building Program, Liberia Youth Employment Program (LYEP), TVET Program, Yana Boys Training Program, Young Farmers Training Program and Computer Literacy Training Program, among others.

He told the Liberia News Agency Tuesday at his Paynesville office that these programs would help to prepare youths for a brighter future if they take advantage of them.

He said the training will also encourage young farmers to return to the soil and become self-reliant in food production.

Minister Gonyon disclosed that the ministry has introduced a scholarship scheme targeting students in the sciences, noting that the first 15 beneficiaries will be selected from across the country.

He said beneficiaries will be required to obtain an average of 85 percent and above and must successfully pass the West African Examination Council test to maintain the scholarship.

Meanwhile, Gonyon has challenged young Liberians to be proactive in taking their destiny into their own hands, saying that they must be serious to form part of the ongoing reconstruction process of Liberia.
