He made the call at the weekend when he served as keynote speaker at the 53rd Commencement Convocation of the Cuttington University in Suakoko, Bong County.

The veteran Liberian journalist wants government to make it mandatory that foreign businesses having assets above US$50,000 have Liberians as partners in their respective businesses.

He stressed that “if government does not act promptly, its citizens will forever remain poor.”

Mr. Best said the purpose of education is to move the country forward, noting, “if we must create a new Liberia for our unborn generation, Government needs to listen and take the appropriate actions.”

He frowned at the country’s economic status, saying, "it is hard to believe that Liberia, a founding member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and other global bodies still remains among the poorest nations of the world."

During its 53rd Commencement Convocation held at the weekend the Cuttington University graduated over 1,000 students who obtained degrees in various disciplines.

Among the graduates were three physically challenged who earned degrees in education. 

The commencement convocation marked 123 years of the existence of CU which was relocated from Maryland County to central Liberia on April 17, 1948.
