Sloh Calls For Laws To Punish Lawless Counties

MONROVIA, July 14 (LINA) – The Project Manager of the Liberia News Agency (LINA), Jay Nagbe Sloh, has called for tougher laws against counties whose citizens are involved in acts of lawlessness that have the propensity to disrupt the peace.

“If we had tougher laws and punishments on our books for would-be disgruntled counties or citizens, Liberia would not have gone through the more than 14 years of bitter civil war,” he noted.

He made the statement when he appeared on the state-run Liberia Broadcasting System’s Bumper Show over the weekend.

According to Mr. Sloh, if county authorities are aware that funds directed to them for development would be used to repair properties destroyed by their citizens, “there will be a very serious reduction in the number of vandalism, destruction and mayhem that are being perpetrated by citizens of the counties.”

He said if the communities and people of Nimba had taken full responsibility of their own security, “considering that the county would bear the full weight in case anything wrong happens, what occurred in Yekepa would not have happened.”
