MONROVIA, July 19 (LINA) -The Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Liberia, Professor Geegbae A. Geegbae, has recommended developing the professionalism of individuals at work places for maximum output in government.

He said this would include the development of norms and values of a professional culture and also the introduction of ethical issues in work places and using new technologies.

Professor Geegbae made the recommendation Friday when he served as Keynote Speaker at the graduation of the first Training Cycle of 2014 of public and private Sector employees.

The training was conducted by the Liberia Institute for Public Administration (LIPA).

He pointed out that Government employees or public servants are likely to do a good job if they know what they are expected to do in clear terms.

According to him, clarification of the mission of the department or agency, its goals and the manner in which the tasks employees perform are linked to goals and mission will help them perform better on the job.

“It is a good practice for the departmental staff to participate in the articulation of the mission, goal and values of their department or agency,” Professor Geegbae emphasized.

He stressed that this has been found to foster collegiality, teamwork and productivity throughout departments, and encourage ownership of unified organizational culture based on quality service.

Also speaking at the program, LIPA Director General Oblayon B. Nyemah said
capacity building in a post-conflict environment like Liberia poses severe challenges, especially in the context where Liberia has visualized a national development agenda which encapsulates Vision 2030 and the Agenda for Transformation.

Mr. Nyemah said the national vision would be unachievable if Liberians do no not prioritize capacity-building.
