Bassa Supt. Launches Ebola Task Force

BUCHANAN, July 20 (LINA) – The Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, Madam Etweda Cooper, has constituted an Ebola Task Force to sensitize citizens of the county about Ebola disease and measures to prevent it.

Launching the Task Force Friday in the conference room at the Administration Building in the port city of Buchanan, Superintendent Cooper said the Task Force will lead the fight against the deadly virus in the county.

She told a cross-section of Bassa citizens that indeed, Ebola exists in Liberia and that it kills in “a very short period of time and has no cure.”

Quoting statistics from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Grand Basa Superintendent said 71% of those affected with the virus have died, including health workers.

She said, “it is about time that citizens do all in their power to adhere to the rules of engagement about what causes Ebola and those foods and the hygienic components of it”, she asserted.

Madam Cooper disclosed at the ceremony that the four persons who were reported to have contracted the disease in Bassa few weeks ago have all proved negative after careful tests conducted.

She emphasized that the task force was set up to ensure that every citizen is knowledgeable about Ebola.

The Ebola Task Force comprises  the Superintendent, Development Superintendent, local county authorities, district health officers, Dr. Emmanuel Pajebo, Chief Medical Officer at the Liberia Government Hospital in Buchanan, youth caucus, Arcelor Mittal Liberia, UNMIL, Concern World Wide, community representatives and s four-man case management team from the county health office.

The Ebola Task Force was structured on July 16 through consultative meetings held among the county leadership, county health office, Zone leaders and governors of the county.
