The House made the concurrence Tuesday during its regular session after the Joint Committee on Internal Affairs, Judiciary and Ways, Means and Finance submitted a report to it on an Act seeking to create the new chiefdom.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the Act was sent to the Lower House by the Upper House for concurrence three weeks ago, and it was forwarded to the Joint Committee for review and recommendation.

The Committee reported that the Chiefdom has 22 clans with more than 50,000 inhabitants, and properly defined corporate boundaries.  

Members of the Committee stressed that it was necessary for the House to concur with the Senate because doing so will promote local governance, improve human security and enhance the rule of law.

Concluding, the Committee stated: “Based on information provided by legal experts, consultation with relevant stakeholders and research conducted, and considering the role that a chiefdom plays in local governance, we recommend that this August Body concurs with the Liberian Senate to pass the Act and send it to the President for her signature”.
