“It is totally unacceptable and anyone engaged in this barbaric behavior will face the full weight of the law,” the Police Spokesman warned.
“Health workers like nurses and doctors are the first on the frontline in the war against the Ebola virus; so if we are to eradicate this deadly disease, we must not only support them but give them our fullest cooperation. Some of these health workers have died fighting the Ebola virus; so anyone caught attacking them will be arrested, prosecuted and if found guilty will face the full force of the law,” Collins warned in the interview with LINA.
The warning comes in the wake of an attack by a group of citizens on health workers at the Phebe Hospital in Gbarnga who were trying to bury the bodies of patients who had died from the Ebola virus.
The angry mob was demanding the bodies of their loved ones, not knowing they too could contract the disease from the dead bodies and die.
It can be recalled that an angry man set ablaze the conference room of the Ministry of Health few days ago and is presently in police custody undergoing investigation.
Attacks on health workers has been on the increase since the Ebola outbreak in the country in March.
Meanwhile, Mr. Collins has disclosed that the LNP will shortly dispatch police officers to health facilities around the country to protect health worker engaged in treating Ebola patients.
