Gov’t To Provide Security For Health Workers

MONROVIA, July 31 (LINA) - Justice Minister Christina Tah has disclosed that police officers will be assigned at health institutions to prevent attacks on medical facilities and personnel by individuals denying the existence of the Ebola disease.

She observed that attempts by some individuals to aggress health workers as they perform Ebola-related duties was creating a sense of insecurity among them that has the potential to negatively impact to fight against the deadly. 

Addressing a press conference at her office on Ashmun Street Wednesday, Minister Tah said the ministry will also provide police to escort health workers going into areas of Ebola outbreaks.

She added that the police will also ensure that commercial vehicles, especially buses, are not overcrowded, saying that this is one of the fastest ways the disease is spread. 

Meanwhile, Minister Tah has said the Justice Ministry will institute measures to curtail the selling of bush meat in the country.

She said the Ebola virus is closely associated with the eating of monkeys, baboons and other primates.
