He said President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is aware of claims that Ebola suspects who are in isolation centers are not being fed properly and are abandoned by the government.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Minister Brown gave the assurance Sunday when he appeared on ELBC radio to give an update on the Ebola virus in Liberia.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is mandated to feed the suspects three to four times daily.

Minister Brown explained that individuals infected with the virus are Liberians who once served their country and therefore cannot be abandoned as is being speculated by some people.

He disclosed that leaders of the three Mano River Union (MRU) countries have agreed to quarantine the epicenters of the outbreak of the virus, which are believed to have the highest percentage of infected people.

The epicenter has a diameter of almost 300 kilometers or 185 miles which spreads from Kenema in eastern Sierra Leone to Macenta in southern Guinea and which also takes in most of Liberia’s northern forests.

He appealed to health workers to return to work and help in the fight against the Ebola virus, adding that the MRU leaders also agreed on providing health care workers the necessary protection, incentives and treatment to enable them return to work.

Meanwhile, the Information Minister has announced that based on international experts’ advice, the corpses of Ebola victims in Liberia will now be cremated under a control method to avoid resistance from community dwellers over the burial of victims of the virus.
