MONROVIA, August 5 (LINA) - Information Minister Lewis Brown has said there will be no national holiday as the Liberia Council of Churches observes three days of fast and prayer beginning Wednesday, August 6.

The minister’s clarification comes in the wake of speculation in Monrovia and its environs that the fast and prayer period will be non-working days.

He said though the President has welcomed the call by the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) for a three-day fast and prayer, it is not a holiday and not intended for people to stay at home.

Minister Brown called on Liberians in the employ of government as well as those in the private sector to go to work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and not stay home in the name of a national holiday that the government did not declare.

He made the statement in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at his Ministry of Information offices on Capitol Hill in Monrovia on Tuesday.

Minister Brown encouraged citizens to report to work while at the same time reverencing and referencing God for his blessings on Liberia as a nation and to help the country survive the deadly Ebola virus.

The Information Minister said though as Christians, each and every Liberian needs to call on God now than ever before, the country needs people to attend to other businesses by which the national life can be made whole.

He called on Liberians regardless of whether they are at work or home or Christians or Muslins to join in the national fast and prayer for God to help the nation overcome this epidemic.
