The residents told the Liberia News Agency over the weekend that the sea encroachment is not only a threat to their homes, but also their livelihood as it stalls economic activities.
 
They appealed to government to speedily complete the coastal defense project in order to avert the situation.
 
Atlantic Street, which lies parallel to the Atlantic Ocean, has about 60 meters of beach land that borders the ocean.
Experts from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have attributed the rising sea level to global environmental problems such as climate change and global warming.
The Coordinator for Climate Change Enabling Activities at the EPA, Benjamin S. Karmorh, expressed optimism that the coastal defense project, which began in 2013 as a means to reclaim lost land, when completed will prevent further sea erosion in the area.
He named Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Sinoe and Maryland counties as priority areas where sea erosion must be addressed.
