MONROVIA, February 6 (LINA) - Agriculture Minister Florence Chenoweth has underscored the need for Liberians to become proactive in agriculture because it is the bedrock of economic growth.

She said agriculture will also transform communities and create increased opportunities for wealth and entrepreneurship across the country.

Speaking at a Cabinet Retreat in Julijuah, Bomi County recently, Chenoweth said if Liberians engage in agricultural activities the nation will witness significant decrease in unemployment as the sector is the largest source of employment and foreign exchange earnings.

She also noted that with the active participation of everyone in food production, the country would be able to meet local food demand and promote trade opportunities.

The ministry was established by an Act of Legislation in 1972 to promote a robust, competitive and modernized sector supportive of sustainable economic growth and development.
