The ceremony took place in the Chambers of the Senate at the Capitol Building, a day after the senators were certificated by the National Elections Commission (NEC).

The induction was consistent with Chapter 2 Section 1 of the Senate’s standing rules which call for the administration of the oath of office to each senator.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the Secretary of the Senate, Nanborlor Singhbe, performed the ceremony upon the orders of the Presiding Officer, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, who is also President of the Senate.

Nearly two months ago, the Supreme Court halted the certification of Sherman and Saytumah following complaints filed against them by their opponents in the December 20, 2014 Special Senatorial Election.

Prior to the Supreme Court’s decision, the NEC had ruled that the Writ of Prohibition filed against the election of the two senators had no magnitude.
