Theresa Dweh-Sheriff said the school system was “greatly affected” by the Ebola crisis, rendering it financially incapable of paying its teachers since August 2014.
She made the appeal Wednesday at the Ministry of Information daily press conference in Monrovia.
“If there is no financial assistance then there will be a serious problem for our school system,” Sheriff said.
Mrs. Sheriff said the financial constraint is occasioned by demands by the teachers that they be paid for the period school was closed during the height of the Ebola crisis.
She noted that even though they have challenges, the school administration complied with the Education Ministry’s mandate by sticking to the February 16 school re-opening date.
