He maintained that though the PBA’s concerns could be genuine, staging mass demonstrations and shutting down businesses in the area were wrong and should be reconsidered.

Senator Grupee made the suggestion Tuesday after several members of the PBA converged at the Capitol Building with placards calling for the Legislature’s immediate intervention in the rift with the PCC.

In a communication dated March 3, the PBA alleged that the PCC management has constantly hiked municipal taxes without regard to the economic viability of businesses.

They further alleged that despite paying taxes to the city government, the PCC has also empowered Community-based Enterprises (CBEs) to collect fees for garbage collection ranging from L$100 to LS200 per business center weekly.

However, the Public Relations Officer of PCC, Jennie Jallah, has described as misleading the claims by the PBA that the entity is collecting illegal taxes, noting that this is only intended to discredit the corporation.
