(MONROVIA. LIBERIA – Monday, May 5, 2014) President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has issued Executive Order No. 64 suspending import tariffs on all types of agricultural equipment, agricultural seeds, as well as live animals for breeding.

The Order also suspends tariffs on other goods directly related to agriculture development classified under the Tariff Numbers of the Liberian Revenue Code. Importers shall pay only the Customs User Fee (CUF) and the ECOWAS Trade Levy (ETL), where applicable.

According to an Executive Mansion, those benefitting from this Executive Order must be directly involved in the forestry and agriculture sectors.

The Liberian leader indicated that Government recognizes the increased need to stimulate activities in the agricultural sector after years of war; and also recognizes the need to provide incentives under the economic transformation pillar of the Agenda for Transformation by encouraging private sector investment in the procurement of essential agricultural development with the view, inter alia, to become self-sufficient in food production.

This Executive Order took effect as of April 25, 2014.
