This new effort will build on investments the government has made and successes it has achieved in global primary school education and expand them to help adolescent girls complete their education and pursue their broader aspirations.

The disclosure was contained in a press release issued Wednesday by the United States Embassy in Monrovia.

The release indicated the about 62 million girls around the world, half of whom are adolescent are not in school, something which has diminished their economic opportunities and has made them more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, early and forced marriage, and other forms of violence.

President Obama and First lady Michelle believe that when girl receive quality education, they are more likely to earn a decent living, raise a healthy and educated family and improve the quality of life for themselves, their families and their communities.

First Lady Michelle Obama, in collaboration with the American Peace Corps under this new initiative, will support community-generated and community-led girls’ education projects to assist adolescent girls worldwide complete their education.
