Kvinna Till Kvinna is dedicated to supporting women in times of war and conflict to increase their power and influence.
Madam Rie Liutonski indicated that ending violent acts such as rape and torture must be the priority of all persons around the globe, and not just at the national level.
Liutonski made the observation Monday at programs marking the official celebration of International Women’s Day at the Gender Ministry. This year’s observance is being celebrated under the theme: “Women Rising Beyond Ebola.”
According to Liutonski, every country must embrace the efforts of each other, despite cultural differences and language barriers, if they are to break the walls of inequality in society.
“The key to development is equality of status and rights, so there must be equal rights and status amongst women around the world,” she said.
She also stressed the importance of more women participation in national policy decision-making and admonished them to continue taking measures that are crucial to protecting their bodies and victims of the ongoing Ebola crisis.
International Women’s Day has been celebrated by women throughout the world on March 8 every year, since its inception in 1975.
The day has grown to become a global day during which women organizations and governments host large-scale programs that stress women’s advancement in all aspects of life.
