MONROVIA, March 9 (LINA) – Deputy Justice Minister Cllr. Wheatonia Barnes has called on female security officers to educate communities on provisions of the law and encourage rape survivors to report their cases for investigation.

Speaking Monday at programs marking the celebration of International Women’s Day held at the Ministry of Gender in Monrovia, Barnes noted that acts of rape and domestic violence indicate the inequality women still suffer on a daily basis in Liberia.

Barnes said the perpetrators of these acts often enjoy impunity because women are pressured by society to compromise these cases.

She added that it is the responsibility of women in the security sector to encourage survivors to come forward and build trust in the system.

“You must receive their complaints with sensitivity and integrity; do your due diligence in investigating their cases, because they see you as ambassadors of justice,” she stressed.
