CESTOS CITY, March 9 (LINA) -The Chairperson on the Steering Committee for the Rivercess By-Election, National Election Commission (NEC) Commissioner Davidetta Lassanah has ended a one-day acquaintance meeting with stakeholders on the conduct of the District #2 by-elections.

The meeting, which brought together political parties, youth and women groups, chiefs, security agencies, religious and traditional leaders, is part of the NEC pre-election activities and was held in the conference room of the Liberia National Red Cross Society Rivercess Chapter in Cestos City recently.

Commissioner Lassanah informed the meeting that the by-election is to fill the vacancy created as a result of the election of Representative Francis Paye to the Liberian Senate during the special senatorial elections held in December 2014.

She called on citizens of District #2 to report irregularities during the election process to place NEC in the position to promptly deal with them.

Meanwhile, the Liberty Party has endorsed Mr. Matthew Walley as the party’s candidate to contest the Rivercess District #2 by-election.

According to the party Secretary General Jacobs Smith, the decision was made on Monday, March 2, at the party’s National Headquarters in Monrovia following consultation with partisans in Rivercess County.
