Criminal Court 'D' has slapped six notorious armed robbers with seven years imprisonment each for armed robberies in the 72nd, Soul Clinic and Cow Field Communities in Paynesville City outside Monrovia.

They were indicted in 2014 for committing the acts and confessed in 2015.

Their confession in open Court was rejected by Judge Nelson Togba on grounds that armed robbery is a first degree felony and as such state lawyers should prove armed robbery to reasonable doubt as provided by law.

Judge Togba affirmed the trial jurors' unanimous guilty verdict against six notorious armed robbers saying "the verdict was consistent."

The Criminal Court 'D' presiding judge informed the Court that evidence produced during the trial by the state lawyers were overwhelming to convict the men of the crime.

He said state prosecutors proved their case beyond reasonable doubts despite the confession of the defendants at the start of the trial.

Defense lawyers have taken exception to the Judge final judgment and announced an appeal to the Supreme Court of Liberia.
