The flowering of the three was part of the 58th Armed Forces Day celebration which, among other things, highlighted the role of the army in responding to natural disasters and national emergencies.
Maj. Gens. Volesky, Darryl Williams and Gregory were decorated with one of Liberia’s highest military honors, the Distinguished Service Order.
His exceptional leadership and support to the Armed Forces of Liberia in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus has been magnificent,” the citation, read by Chief of Protocol Rufus Neufville, indicated.
In collaboration with the Armed Forces of Liberia’s engineering company, the 101st Airborne Division under the leadership of Maj. General Gary Volesky has been successful in constructing several treatment units at locations across the country. Through his guidance, the U.S. military effort has been felt throughout the country in hazardous and infectious areas while delivering urgently needed medical supplies, equipment, materials and personnel.
“The United States military effort has helped trained over 1,000 healthcare workers as part of its response in managing and controlling the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
“Maj. General Volesky outstanding support to the Armed Forces of Liberia and the people of Liberia is in keeping with the finest tradition of the military services. His service to our country brings credit onto himself, his family and the United States Military,” read the citation of his honor.
On similar note, the Head of Mission of the African Union Support of Ebola Outbreak in West Africa (ASEOWA), Maj. General Julius F. Oketta, also received military honor.
