(LINA) -Two non-profit organizations will Thursday sign a Memorandum of Understand to scout funding to provide comprehensive psycho-social services to residents of the Boys Town Community in Margibi County.
A release issued Wednesday by the Sengbe Group, Inc. (SGI) and the Renewed Energy Serving Humanity (RESH) group and signed by the Lead Psychotherapist, W. Kpangbala Sengbe, put the cost of the project at US$200,400.
The release said the Boys Town Community is one of the communities hardest hit in Liberia by the Ebola virus due to the cremation of Ebola dead bodies at the crematorium located in the community.
“As a result of the exposure of the community to the cremation process, a tradition very foreign to Liberia’s path of bidding farewell to our dead, traumatic episodes, including sleeplessness, lack of concentration/focus by crematorium workers, behavior imbalances of children and general anxiety amongst the population are becoming prevalent in the community,” the release said.
It also noted that, however, the psychological treatment regime for mitigating these challenges has been slow coming by as compared to other health interventions over the last year in Liberia.
