The Management of the Liberia Rubber Company (LAC) has refuted a memo circulating on social media claiming that two officials of government requested and received payments from LAC.

According to the fabricated memo, Ministers Morris Dukuly and Neto Leighe of Internal Affairs and Labour respectively requested and received payments to guarantee favorable results from ongoing investigation into a recent explosion at LAC.

In a press statement issued Monday, the LAC management categorically denied issuing such memo. According to the Management, the signature on the memo is not the signature of Mr. Harry Attoh, Human Resource and Administration Manager, nor is the memo consistent with the internal communication style of the company.

“This is a fabrication by those who are bent on tarnishing the hard earned reputation of others and jeopardize the outcome of the pending investigation into the cause of the explosion which will be carried out by a team of international experts and the Liberian Government”, the release clarified.

Workers at the rubber plantation recently went on go-slow when a condensate tank exploded which killed six persons and injured 11 others. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the explosion while those injured have fully recovered and have been reunited with their families.

A memo was posted on social media claiming that Mr. Attoh wrote the General Manager (whose name wasn’t mentioned) requesting permission to disburse funds to Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly, Labour Minister Neto Leighe and others for their help in calming the situation on the plantation following go-slow actions by workers.

Meanwhile, the Management of LAC has extended apologies to Ministers Dukuly and Leighe as well as others implicated in the fabricated memo for whatever harm it has done to their reputations. The company also assured all employees of its fullest cooperation in addressing their concerns and promoting the spirit of industrial harmony.
