Mayor James G. Kiazolu noted that sea erosion is a natural phenomenon, but emphasized that since 10 years ago when sea erosion threatened some parts of city, residents were relocated and the City of Robertsport has not experienced sea erosion.
Mayor Kiazolu made the disclosure Thursday in an interview with Liberia News Agency at a validation workshop of the Enterprise Development Plan Report for the Fish Landing Cluster in Robertsport held at a local hotel in Monrovia.
He disclosed that a major clean-up campaign is ongoing in Robertsport and its environs, and warned citizens of Grand Cape Mount County residing outside the county to begin cleaning up their properties that have been abandoned over the years.
He stressed that the Robertsport City Council will not continue to clean properties that have been abandoned and are adversely affecting the beauty and sanitary state of the city.
Mayor Kiazalu disclosed that the City Council will begin imposing fines on people who refuse to clean their properties, noting that Robertsport was once a tourist site, but now has been overtaken by bushes.
Meanwhile, the Robertsport City Mayor is appealing to the central government to help improve the touristic attractions of Robertsport , including Lake Piso, the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding mountains, to generate revenue, create employment and promote the city to tourists worldwide.
Robertsport City was founded on April 17, 1855 and named after Liberia’s first President Joseph Jenkins Roberts.
