According to President Sirleaf, the event is intended to bring together African leaders with President Obama and other U.S leaders to strengthen the bonds of friendship in looking at the future and how that friendship can be deepened to prepare for Africa’s next generation.
She made the statement at a joint press conference on the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit organized by the Government of Liberia and U.S Embassy in the Foyer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia on Tuesday.
The Liberian leader disclosed that as head of the High Level Committee of African Heads of State on the Common African Position (CAP), the ideas that will be exchanged by African leaders will be consistent with the post-2015 African Common Position, which calls for the transformation of African countries’ economies.
President Sirleaf said at the summit, she and her team will also participate and fully contribute to the Peace and Security session, noting, “peace and security is vital based on our own national experience and also based on the fact that without them no country can effectively mount its development agenda.”
The Liberian Head of State further disclosed: “my team and I will also hold consultations with development partners to continue their assistance to our development drive, which we all desire so well”.
“Governing for the next generation poses on all that we do what is right and prepare ourselves very well so that we can fully equip those who will follow in such a way that they will get maximum benefit in order for them to make maximum contributions to the effort of their country,” President Sirleaf observed.
She used the occasion to thank U.S President Barrack Obama for affording Africa and African leaders this great opportunity that will allow them to speak openly and frankly and exchange views on this mutual cooperation that is so important to the world.
