Making remarks at a one-day high-level assessment roundtable discussion on the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), Cllr. Barnes noted that the division will be staffed with some of the country’s best prosecutors that will handle cases in the interest of the country and its people.
Barnes indicated that despite the ministry’s limitations, it has prioritized the prosecution of certain cases, including the alleged bribery of the legislature by NOCAL, the illegal issuance of logging permits by some officials and the corruption case at the National Drugs Service.
In a related development, Bong County Senator Jewel Taylor has indicated that the change of the mindset of citizens as the best mechanism that will not only reduce, but eradicate corruption.
Taylor noted that with a change of mindset, the citizens will be awakened by their conscience whenever they find themselves getting involved in acts of corruption.
The Bong County Senator has frowned on complaints of lack of money, capacity, jobs and other factors often advanced as reasons for the commission of corruption.
“We must change that perception; we need to begin shaming those involved in acts of corruption whether in the judiciary, legislature or executive, in the market place, home, public or private sector,” Taylor stressed.

Justice Ministry Plans To Set Up Anti-Corruption Division

According to Deputy Justice Minister Wheatonia Barnes, the ministry is preparing a bill that will provide for the creation of additional courts dedicated to the prosecution of corruption cases.
