MONROVIA, October 1,(LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has congratulated the Government and people of the sisterly Republic of Guinea on the occasion marking the 56th Independence Anniversary of that neighboring country.

President Sirleaf, in her message to her Guinean counterpart, Prof. Alpha Conde, said the regrettable mood attending the celebration of Guinea's historic occasion this year has been muted by the pall cast over the both countries and their respective peoples and the Mano River Union (MRU) sub-region by the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which has claimed the lives of citizens of both Liberia and Guinea.

"As we work in concert to combat the spread and to eradicate this deadly disease, it is our hope that our Sub region will emerge stronger to continue together to promote the aims and objectives of the MRU and restore our respective countries to vibrancy," President Sirleaf stated in her congratulatory message.

According to a Foreign Ministry’s release, she then prayed that the Almighty Allah will continue to shower President Conde with abundant wisdom and prolonged good health as he continues to steer the affairs of his great country.
