(LINA) - The Liberia National Police (LNP) has launched an investigation into the shooting incident involving Messrs. Samuel B. Cooper and Praise Tony Lawal in

the Fish Market area in Sinkor in the early hours on Friday, May 29.

Police spokesman Sam Collins told a news conference Monday that police is currently conducting the probe with the objective of locating the weapon used and bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice.

He said as part of this investigation, a thorough examination of the crime scene was conducted and all homes in the immediate vicinity were searched with a warrant issued by the Monrovia City Court.

According to Collins, several persons are also being questioned with respect to the incident, including Mr. Lawal, noting that the home and offices of Lawal were searched.

Meanwhile, the LNP says it notes with deep regret that certain individuals with little understanding of the role of the police have chosen either out of mischief or ignorance or both, to spread falsehoods and blatant lies about the activities of the police in the case.

He indicated that, contrary to claims made by certain media persons, Lawal was arrested with the use of minimum force despite his violent and hostile conduct in resisting arrest by a squad of criminal investigators.
