The citizens made the assertion at a one-day education sector review forum organized by the district education office in Sanniquellie recently.
They observed that if these impediments are not addressed, they could lead to a complete collapse of the school system in the district.

The forum brought together Chairpersons of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and Principals from over 20 schools in the district to discuss issues facing their institutions of learning.

Speaking at the forum, Mah District Education Officer (DEO) Lawrence Kessilee, said he wants the government pay teachers at their respective district education offices instead of in the capital, Sanniquellie, making it difficult for teachers to receive their pay.

Kessilee also stated that the PTAs are not taking ownership of schools in their communities, noting, “Parents have withdrawn from aiding school administrators in running and maintaining learning facilities in the district.”

The forum in a proposal called on the government and its partners to revisit the infrastructural growth plan of the education sector of the county.
At the close of the session, principals and PTA chairpersons were instructed to hold community forums to educate and task parents with the possibility of taking ownership of schools in the district.
