National Coordinator of the NCCL, Ms. Patience S. Heah, did not disclose when the meetings will be held, but said if the plans of hosting the meetings are approved, the country will be divided into four regions and four working teams to conduct the forums.

She made the statement over the weekend at the Ministry of Labor during the Sixth National Steering Committee Meeting for the Eliminations of the Worst Form of Child Labor in Liberia held by the NCCL.

The meeting focused on the finalization of a National Action Plan for the elimination of child labor in Liberia.

However, she complained of the lack of adequate funding to enable the commission to carry out the plan of the consultative meetings, adding, “These meetings are very important to the fight against the elimination of child labor in Liberia.”

In a related development, the focal person in Liberia for International Program for the Elimination of Child Labor (IPEC)/ILO, Salif Haji Massalay, has said the hurdle in the way of the plan to invite participants to the meetings is the lack of adequate funding.

He noted that the ILO is prepared to assist the commission in other areas of its activities.

Massalay added that the ILO wants the Government of Liberia to take ownership by making a commitment to these planned consultative meetings, mainly the budgetary aspect.
