Under the agreement signed at the John F.Kennedy Hospital, Chevron Liberia will co-fund the initial investment for the project as part of its Corporate Social Investment and as a member of the Ebola Private Sector Mobilization Group (EPSMG).
The CEID, when established, will serve as a healthcare capacity-building program intended to prevent, treat and control infectious diseases as part of Liberia’s post-Ebola recovery strategies.
Giving an overview of the project, JFK Medical Center Administrator, Dr. Wannie Scott McDonald, disclosed that the project has as its four key objectives - capacity- building, clinical care, research, and advocacy and awareness.
Dr. McDonald noted that the center will mobilize resources and the expertise and contributions of diverse partners, including national and international academic institutions, bilateral and multilateral donors, African partners and NGOs, among others.
She said the center will also seek to develop skills and infrastructure to promote excellence in diagnosis, management and prevention of infectious diseases through clinical care, education and training, research and advocacy.
The center, which will be housed at the JFK Medical Center, will be linked to the College of Medicine, the Post-Graduate Medical Institute, Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons, School of Nursing, School of Physician Assistants and other training facilities in the country.
According to Dr. McDonald, the center will also serve as a resource facility for in-service training of health workers with outreach throughout the 15 counties.

(LINA) -The John F. Kennedy Medical Center and Chevron Liberia Tuesday signed an agreement toestablish Liberia’s Center of Excellence for Infectious Diseases (CEID).
