US Ambassador Deborah Malac, signing the grant with the four grantees, said the money was intended to improve the health and education sectors in Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties, where the quadruplicate hails.
Ambassador Malac told a news conference at the U.S. embassy in Monrovia that they would use the grant to provide information on the prevention of infectious diseases in five communities in Montserrado and undertake immunization campaigns for children in specifically in Paynesville, as well as to develop mentorship program for youth and to provide computer literacy and skills for 2,000 youth in grand Bassa County.
According to the U.S Ambassador, the United Nations is very committed to helping Liberians youths develop their country.
The four grantees are Yassah Lavalah, James Alben Greaves, Matthew Fred and James Mulbah.
Upon signing the agreement, the four grantees praised the U.S. government for their support to the country and its people and promised to use the grants for their intended purposes.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a flagship program of US President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiatives launched in 2010 to support emerging young African leaders as they encourage democratic governance and enhanced peace and security across the Africa.
